Sydney Opera House New Year's Eve 2009 Party

Watching the sun set across our beautiful harbour with a signature martini concocted by one dexterous bartender in hand really is a perfect way to celebrate the beginning of a new decade.

Lifestyle specialists, Yakusan and the Sydney Opera House transformed the western boardwalk into a lavish oasis complete with cabanas, plunge pools and model like waiters serving our every whim.

In keep with the theme of pure luxury, Chef extraordinaire Matt Moran designed a unique menu especially for the event with an abundant selection of gourmet delicacies, personalised service of fresh oysters, mini wagyu beef burgers and the Moran's family lamb.

International DJ, Samantha Ronson headlined the night with her mixes of the classics from the Jackson Five to the Kings of Leon.  Sets by Goldfish and Jon Sa Trinxa (Pacha Ibiza residents) and a host of local Australian DJs including Dolso (Sneaky Sound System) and Ian Spicer rocked the evening; along with an appearance by Australian fashion designer come guest DJ, Kirrily Johnson.

At the stroke of Midnight, the 750 guests turned their attention to the spectacular Harbour Bridge and city skyline fireworks with many hoping twenty ten might continue reminiscent of the evening- full of fun, opulence and style.

Much gratitude for the special touches: after 9 hours of partying in heels I welcomed some respite. Thank you to Flipsters for providing the ladies with a pair of comfortable yet stylish flats.

Absolut Halloween Rock Royalty and Ruin

Extravagant parties are back. And ABSOLUT is the first to prove it.

To launch ABSOLUT Rock edition everything conservative was thrown out of the window. Party ringmaster Mark Cavanagh (Cav Con) orchestrated an eclectic guest list to turn up in rock and ruin halloween costumes at a secret Sydney location (which turned out to be the laneway behind State Theatre). 

Bowie Wong showed us some Kill Bill moves, Brad Ngata pulled a Prince and Konstantina Mittas blew a perfect KISS. Darth Maul, Marilyn Manson, Marie-Antoinette and one too many Amy's seeking rehab were amongst the crowd. It was also hard to miss one very cheeky Gingerbread Man.

An unrelentless supply of Absolut Vodka cocktails (a new one every hour) encouraged some to turn un-natural. And whether it was the impeccable manners of friendly wait staff or the moreish yet perfectly bite-size canapes - we couldn't resist.

Half English, half Spanish, all theatrical Paloma Faith entertained, along with an uncannily accurate Taro reader called Ruth, a lady contortionist and Phantom of the Opera (very content playing his piano just outside the ladies washroom).  

ps. The ABSOLUT vodka rock edition is a limited edition series; a black leather studdend 'second skin' which encases a 700ml bottle of classic ABSOLUT Vodka.  A collaboration bringing togehter visionary rock and roll photographer Danny Clinch and Australian rock outfit Wolfmother.

Happy First Sean's Kitchen

Sean Connolly didn’t disappoint, putting on a cracking first birthday party last night.

Two suckling pics, massive pans of paella, jamon, quail empanadas, lamb chops and Magnums of Veuve Clicquot (why thank you) mixed with sangria kept the party spirits high.


The Martini Club performed and the birthday cake (Sweet Art) was impressive... a replica of the Sean’s Kitchen bull with a skull and rose tattoo on its rump. It was a metre long mud cake weighing in at 40 kilos. 
We spoke to Justine and Lucas Parsons from MasterChef about their degustation dinner next week. All this food talk, we're stuffed.
